Pro-loco Art Competition 2021
This year sees the 42nd Pro Loco Art Competition held in Matlock Bath. This is an annual competition and open to everyone aged 14 and above. The main rule is that the finished piece must depict a scene or artefact of Matlock Bath.
All entrants must register to enter using the on line entry form below or by requesting a paper copy of the entry form from the Clerk.
Entrants will be required to ‘drop off’ their work in Matlock Bath (dates to be confirmed). It is hoped that Government restrictions will not be in place thus allowing for all work to be displayed in the Pump Room of the Pavilion where members of the public will be invited to vote for their favourite. Dates will be confirmed nearer the time. Should Government restrictions still be in place in the Autumn, the Parish Council may decide to cancel the event. Entrants will be kept updated.
Prizes this year will be awarded as follows:
Adult (17 and above) – 1st Prize – £150, 2nd Prize – £100, 3rd Prize – £50.
Young Artist (Aged 14-16)- prizes will be awarded in the form of gift vouchers.
“Best Villager” Prize – £50 – this will be awarded to a resident of Matlock Bath
Most Artistic, Innovative Design – £50
Parish Council Award – £50 – voted for by Matlock Bath Parish Council.
Highly Commended – £30 – selected by the Parish Council for entering something different or special.
The finished piece can be in a variety of media – including textiles, 3D, embroidery, ceramics – as well as drawing and painting – you can even do a collage! We will also accept entries using digital art. Entrants choosing this media, must show that they have used the same sort of skill as traditional approaches. We would not accept the ‘one click’ solution whereby the software is doing all the work.
All entrants will also be asked to submit a short paragraph on how they achieved their finished piece, ie what materials and techniques they have used as well as a photograph of the work (to be used on our website).
A link to the rules of the competition is at the bottom of this page – please ensure you read these rules prior to entering.
Any work registered for the cancelled 2020 event will automatically be carried forward to this year.
