The annual Pro Loco Art Competition concluded yesterday with the winners announced at a presentation ceremony in the Pump Room. Votes had been cast on Sunday by members of the public and these were counted together with the votes made on line. Votes were close and all pictures shortlisted received votes.

These are the winning pictures.

The Activities Committee will in the autumn be discussing the 2014 Pro Loco Art Competition and very much hope that as many people as possible enter. If you have any suggestions or comments about the competition, please contact the Clerk at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

It was interesting this year that a few people strayed away from the conventional watercolour/oils and paper/canvas and produced some fantastic artwork done in other media. Penny Piggott entered a wonderful 3D model depicting a street scene by Jubilee Bridge. Marilyn Brummitt produced a canal art plate. It is hoped that these entries may encourage other artists to produce work in this, and other types, of media.

The two runners up - Les Mooney and Mavis Allen - produced fantastic work in different styles.

Best Villager award went to Jonathan Shepherd who once again produced a wonderful painting, this year of South Parade.

The beautiful winning painting of Masson Mills and the River Derwent produced by Lynda Turner, will join the other 33 winners in the Conference Centre of Masson Mills. If anyone would like to see the whole exhibition of previous winners, please contact Masson Mills direct.

Congratulations to all of the winners and to everyone who entered and for making this yet another successful Pro Loco Art Competition.
